My beloved friend recommended me this one and it destroyed me. It's a beautiful exploration of character that takes Mob's canon power trajectory into account. I love the grit in this one, and how dangerous Mob is. Reigen gets away with ignoring two cardinal rules of the universe:

1. Don't stick your dick in crazy and
2. Don't fuck kids.

In all seriousness, though, I'll be thinking about the descriptions in this fic for years to come.

Bleak, desolate, and sad. Something about the mundanity of distance and the way Wei Wuxian's self-hatred is cloying even as he lets things happen the way they end up happening really got to me. The way he carries himself and accepts his situation is very true to his martyrdom in canon. This beautifully-written fic made me feel visceral digust, nausea, and sadness. 10/10

The end of the world, Mob thinks. An apocalypse. Barren wastelands. Vacant streets. Neon signs flickering, half-burnt out. A cataclysm. He could survive it. Reigen probably could too. They could live off canned vegetables and pre-packaged ramen.

And Mob thinks about Reigen's hair, golden under yellow light. The shadow of his eyelashes across his cheekbones. The softness of his lips. The taste of salt and smoke on his fingertips. Skin; sin. They could fuck whenever they want.

Some of the most haunting prose I've ever read. The imagery of decay is fantastic, extremely vivid.

Despite this, I need to warn that the ending is incongruent and sudden, and that there are a LOT of loose ends that will never be tied up. If you can sacrifice a little bit of narrative satisfaction for the best modern AU Akatsuki I could imagine, this should be your jam!! Otherwise, you should probably look elsewhere.

(Also note that this is what woke the SakuAkatsuki shipper in me. There's some sort of love square going on in here and it's TASTY.)

If you can stand the somewhat nonsensical comma structure, this is a beautiful and heartbreaking piece that left a bit of itself in my heart. This fic is all grief and love and mourning recollection. The last chapter was particularly hard for me, and the ending, though open, was very satisfying. Would recommend if you want something emotional and meaty.

The fine line between love and hatred and violence is walked so neatly here. Sasori's voice is so in character. I love quiet Deidara at the beginning, he's so clever and everyone seems to forget it because he's also impulsive. It would make sense that he would take time to scope out his new partner.

The injury scene was achingly sweet, it reminds me of a canon line where Deidara references Sasori chastising him for not being prepared/careful enough which like?? It gets me every single time. Their discussions on art being so detailed that they've exhausted every topic? And yet they still argue? At that point it's a love language.

And Sasori trying to hard not to care. Lovely lovely lovely. He may have a strange way of taking care of his loved ones, but it's caretaking nonetheless. Sasori training Deidara is canon to me now. Sasori's discomfort with just . . . not knowing things. Deidara is a mystery to him and that fascinates him! The chakra strings, the way he always comes close to snapping but something stops him every time, Deidara's nonchalance to the point where you can't tell if he actually has no regard for his life, and that scene at the end. OUCH. I always think about the irony of Deidara outliving Sasori, it makes me so sad and this didn't help. Fluff with the promise of canon events getting in the way always gets me. I'm rambling now but god this one's going to stick with me.

AKA the fic where sakura gets to be as dumb and have as little regard for her personal wellbeing as every other Naruto character, & teaches herself how to heal by inflicting & then fixing her own injuries. This deals both with some major changes to the plotline given her new skills, and the overall team dynamic.

LOVE the action in this one. I mentioned in one other blurb that I'm not a huge fan of AUs, but this dystopian cyberpunk sort of future is strangely fitting for Naruto, and Naruto and Sasuke's personalities got turned up to 11, which was very fun. The intense and pervasive sexual tension gets five stars.
